Dr. Hemanathan Kumar is a renowned senior researcher with expertise in the field of Applied Chemistry and Industrial Biotechnology. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, which he earned in 2016. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. (Eng) in Resource Recovery – Industrial Biotechnology from the University of Borås, Sweden, in 2011, and his B.Tech. in Biotechnology from Anna University, Chennai, India, in 2009.Dr. Kumar's Ph.D. thesis, titled "Novel Concepts on the Recovery of By-products from Alkaline Pulping," focuses on the biorefining of the spent liquor obtained from the chemical pulping process. The primary objective of his research is to recover valuable materials such as sodium hydroxide, aliphatic carboxylic acids, and lignin from black liquor. Furthermore, he explores effective ways to utilize these recovered materials in the production of valuable chemicals and biofuels.Currently, Dr. Kumar is actively involved in Neste's NEXBTL (Neste Renewable Diesel) projects. As an industry expert, he stays updated on the latest trends and advancements in the field of biorefining, resource recovery, and renewable energy. He focuses on identifying and implementing innovative techniques and processes that can enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and profitability of biofuel production.In his role at Neste, Dr. Kumar collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop and optimize renewable diesel production processes. This involves investigating new feedstock options, refining process parameters, and improving overall efficiency and sustainability.
