Currently working as a Paediatric Intensivist at Lilavati Hospital. I manage both the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the neonatal unit. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit- Lilavati Hospital has a very large infertility treatment centre and hence has to treat extreme premature and extremely low birth weight babies born out of maternal complications. Currently we are managing twin babies who are 25 weekers and 520 grams birth weight. Neonatal unit has 7 beds and cater to inborn babies. It is a level III neonatal unit and has all the advanced facilities for ventilation, monitoring, surgical intervention, central venous catheters, dialysis, echocardiography, sonography. Job responsibilities include taking daily rounds with junior doctors and guiding them with the day to day management of neonates, assessment of critically ill babies and appropriate intervention and treatment, guiding ventilation strategy as per individual basis. Performing all the procedures including central line insertion, PICC line, endotracheal intubation, umbilical venous and arterial catheterisation, ventricular tap, ascitic tap, lumbar puncture, peritoneal dialysis, arterial line insertion, needle thoracocentesis and chest drain insertion,partial & complete exchange,lumbar puncture,catheterisation,initial treatment of babies with congenital heart disease and babies with surgical problems and other routine procedures. Ensuring safe drug prescribing and rational antibiotic use depending on the local guidelines and sensitivity pattern. Paediatric Intensive Care Unit-PICU has 5 beds which cater to critical children. It has the advanced monitoring system required for tertiary level unit.Job responsibility also includes teaching and training DNB students at the institute in learning basic and advanced paediatrics including intensive care management.

During this period was posted in various wards including PICU (3months) and NICU (6 months). Job responsibilities included examining, working up and managing cases (including performing procedures) attending the Outpatient department, In patient department, Casualty services and the ICUs.During this period was also posted on rota basis in various paediatric super speciality clinics like endocrinology, immunology, nephrology, neurology, cardiology, and HIV and Infectious diseases. The job responsibility in these clinics included examining, working up and managing children attending the clinics under the guidance of specialist consultants. PICU-I have a good experience of working in the tense and demanding environment of PICU, which was a level III PICU and also have a fair experience in most of the procedures required in intensive care setting. Performing endotracheal intubations, central venous lines including femoral as well as subclavian and internal jugular, intraosseous lines, needle thoracocentesis, chest drain insertion, pleural tap, ascitic tap, liver biopsy lumbar puncture, arterial lines, IBP and CVP monitoring, performing peritoneal dialysis(insertion of catheters) and putting access ports for haemodialysis, kidney biopsy, exchange transfusion and ventricular tap to name a few. I have also had the opportunity to manage children with complex renal problems as it was the tertiary Paediatric Nephrology unit in the city. We also had children with various neurosurgical problems and hence had the opportunity of managing post-surgery complications.
