Paediatric Intensivist
CurrentCurrently working as a Paediatric Intensivist at Lilavati Hospital. I manage both the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the neonatal unit. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit- Lilavati Hospital has a very large infertility treatment centre and hence has to treat extreme premature and extremely low birth weight babies born out of maternal complications. Currently we are managing twin babies who are 25 weekers and 520 grams birth weight. Neonatal unit has 7 beds and cater to inborn babies. It is a level III neonatal unit and has all the advanced facilities for ventilation, monitoring, surgical intervention, central venous catheters, dialysis, echocardiography, sonography. Job responsibilities include taking daily rounds with junior doctors and guiding them with the day to day management of neonates, assessment of critically ill babies and appropriate intervention and treatment, guiding ventilation strategy as per individual basis. Performing all the procedures including central line insertion, PICC line, endotracheal intubation, umbilical venous and arterial catheterisation, ventricular tap, ascitic tap, lumbar puncture, peritoneal dialysis, arterial line insertion, needle thoracocentesis and chest drain insertion,partial & complete exchange,lumbar puncture,catheterisation,initial treatment of babies with congenital heart disease and babies with surgical problems and other routine procedures. Ensuring safe drug prescribing and rational antibiotic use depending on the local guidelines and sensitivity pattern. Paediatric Intensive Care Unit-PICU has 5 beds which cater to critical children. It has the advanced monitoring system required for tertiary level unit.Job responsibility also includes teaching and training DNB students at the institute in learning basic and advanced paediatrics including intensive care management.
