Welcome!I am an expert in the biochemistry of human metabolic diseases with focus on:a. Inherited defects of homocysteine, B12 and folate metabolismb. Associations between elevated homocysteine and risk for cardiovascular diseasec. Inherited methylation disordersd. Folate metabolism and methylation in neural tube defects and congenital heart diseasee. Development LC-ESI-MS/MS applications, with focus on inherited diseasesIn addition I am coordinator of the European Network and Registry for Homocystinurias and Methylation Defects (E-HOD) funded by the EU in the framework of the Health Program (No.2012_12_02), running from 15.2.2013 till 15.5.2016. E-HOD concerns 15 different inherited metabolic disorders in homocysteine and methylation metabolism. In June 2016 the consortium consisted of almost 100 partners. Main achievements are the setup of the E-HOD website (www.EHOD.com) with information for expert and patients and their families in more than 8 different languages. The E-HOD registry (www.EHOD.registry.com) contains more than 600 patients at august 2016. Another important achievement is the preparation of 4 guideline manuscriptsI have received 36 research grants as lead or Co PI. For my accomplishments in the research field of homocysteine and cardiovascular disease I was awarded Established Investigator of the Netherlands Heart Foundation in 1997. My success as researcher can also be judged by more than 350 publications in international peer reviewed journals, which have been cited over 20,000 times.
