With 38 years in the mining industry, my experience include strategic and life-of-mine planning, operational management and efficiency improvement, mine expansion projects and corporate governance functions in surface and underground mining in both coal and precious metals environments, I am a leader in my field. I hold a M Eng Project Management and B Eng Mining Engineering degrees from the University of Pretoria, an MDP from Unisa, is a registered Professional Engineer with ECSA and have both Metalliferous and Coal Mine Managers Certificates.My 28yrs in surface mining internationally has broadened my scope and provided knowledge and experience over almost all aspects of the mining engineering discipline. This has shaped my approach to identify value-adding opportunities through:• Strategic mine planning, trade-off studies and life of mine planning.• Operational planning and scheduling, including mining equipment requirements.• Identification and implementation of operational and managerial improvement opportunities in open pit mines.My knowledge and experience:• Leading multi functional international teams in the development of various strategic mine planning, mine expansion, surface / underground interphase and contractor vs. owner mining studies at several mines on the African continent.• Leading the pit designs and surface layouts of two new open pit mines.• Developing a new underground colliery as the principal company representative on site.• Mining contract tendering, evaluation and management at various mines in Africa.• Project managed the change-over from contractor to owner mining operations, including multi-million dollar expansions, at two mines.• Identification and implementation guidance of various business improvement opportunities at a large open pit mine to improve operational and cost efficiencies. •
