“In a world beset by technological disruption, we need to shape the future and use the leverage of digitization to our advantage!”I have developed an international career intimately linked to the maritime industry. I became actively involved in the rediscovery and the promotion of inland waterways as Europe’s most environmentally friendly mode of transport. Over the years, I acquired in-depth knowledge of intermodal transport, ports, logistics and supply chain management, and was giving comprehensive advice to potential clients. An independent consultant since 1998, I have worked for a wide variety of private companies, industry syndicates, and governmental organizations, and was also deeply involved in export management and export support all over the world for the Dutch yachting industry. The past ten years I have assisted the Dutch office for Telematics in inland waterway transport and participate in various European RIS expert groups. More recently I grew profoundly interested in innovation and technological change. In 2015, I published a vision on (semi) autonomous sailing on the inland waterway (IWT3.0), demonstrating the use of IoT and AI on board of vessels in a dynamic digital ecosystem, closely related to infrastructure and logistics.I recently graduated from a Global Executive MBA program at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. I speak six languages (I love cultural diversity) and view myself as a passionate, result-driven, and forward-thinking individual. I love to learn, discover new insights, inspire others, and, as a hobby, race long distance triathlons. Pr ManagerDutch Promotion Office For Inland Navigation (Bvb) 1990 - 1998Rotterdam, NetherlandsStarted out as the project manager responsible for road shows, town hall meetings, and large-scale events with the objective to promote inland shipping and to attract new cargo to the waterways. Apart from creating a favorable environment for waterborne inland transport, the main purpose of all efforts was to convince shippers to integrate this environmentally friendly mode of transport into their supply chains (modal shift i.e. what we today call synchro modality). Due to this experience, I got acquainted with the many aspects of supply chain management of various industries i.e. shippers in the Netherlands and throughout Europe.
