By combining technologies from LCD manufacturing and Thin-Film coating on ultrathin substrates, a complete manufacturing line was created and qualified in Sunnyvale, CA which produced over 2 million devices on 100um thin / 8” (200mm) glass wafers. For very high volume production (>10 million devices per month as required by the smartphone industry), a scalable manufacturing process yielding over 5,000 devices per substrate has been developed and implemented by leveraging existing but underutilized LCD lines in Asia (Gen2/Gen3) as well as thin film coating facilities in Germany and Japan. The first line in Japan was successfully qualified in 2014 and started delivering product in 2015.
