I was involved in the Procurement Excellence Project at ENRC. My key role was the delivery of savings targets by driving change through implemented category strategies whilst securing the delivery of projects, goods and services across Indirect Spend categories through efficient sourcing processes, negotiations and contract management.

My role at Vodacom was senior supply chain specialist with oversight of the facilities category related to office, technical facilities and retail outlets. The main focus area was to deliver cost of ownership for the category; savings targets in line with savings methodology and agreed value add measures while securing the delivery of projects, goods and services.

During this period, I was subcontracted to niche procurement consulting firms with multiple clients on a project per project basis. This afforded me exposure to the procurement of various types of products and services for a diverse range of clients. Some of the procurement projects that I was involved in was IT outsourcing, facilities outsourcing, baggage replacement and repairs with SAA, sourcing of an outside broadcasting truck for M-Net, and the FIFA World Cup 2010 projects. The highlight of my career as a consultant has been the time working at the BANKSETA. I was directly involved in securing the BANKSETA business contract for Concise Consulting and I measure the success of my time at the BANKSETA based on the fact that the initial contract was extended for a further period of four years.

I started my career working in the purchasing department at Telkom SA Ltd in the role of a buyer capturing purchase orders, compiling tender documents, evaluating quotes and handling of queries. I was part of a helpdesk of two on the Walker Purchasing system handling queries on a national basis (for 200 buyers nationally). I formed part of the transformation project team consisting of Telkom team members and national and international consultants from Andersen Consulting (Accenture). I greatly contributed to the development of new supply chain processes and was responsible for the development of a training pack and coaching operational teams on implementation. The major achievement from this project was the Power Framework agreement that resulted in saving of over R2m pa. In Telkom, I was exposed to all the facets of supply chain namely buying, sourcing, logistics, warehousing and contracting etc, but my disposition was towards the sourcing and strategic supplier relationship environments. My role as sourcing consultant at Telkom entailed as a minimum deciding on the appropriate procurement processes, preparing tender documents, conducting supplier briefings, tender evaluation and negotiations, management of contracts in relations to SLA’s and quarterly liaison meetings with suppliers. I received a spotlight award for the implementation of a savings model and a supplier management programme with smaller suppliers. I was also the team leader for several projects that resulted in savings for the company for example sourcing of the workforce management system (R1m savings), sourcing of a cordless telephone for the single line market (R800k saving) and the value analysis of business systems hardware and software (R1,7m saving). I also initiated the designing and implementation of a new sourcing process for the retail customer premises equipment that was approved on managing executive level.
