I worked the summer as a member of a scrum team maintaining and updating a custom information system. My tasks included assisting in user acceptance testing by analysing and solving raised notifications and bugs. I also helped by maintaining and updating the system documentation as well as translating it along with contract documentation from Finnish to English.

I worked as a shift supervisor at the cashier line. My main resposibilities were ensuring the operations of the cashier line, supporting and assisting other cashiers, allocating personnel between departments in collaboration with other shift supervisors, and providing customers with excellent customer service. In addition, I worked at the information desk and at the consumer durables department which gave me a comprehensive view how the department store operates. At the information desk my tasks included answering phone calls from customers, handling warranty issues, selling items that were only available at the information desk, receiving customer feedback etc. At the consumer durables department I provided assistance to customers in choosing and finding the goods they required, received and checked consignments, stocked up shelves, and assisted cashier line and information desk in their tasks. Working at K-Citymarket really developed my social skills, I survived many stressful and challenging situations, and learned how important customer orientation is.

My duties included:- Grass cutting. Usually I was responsible for cutting fairways which cover most of the surface area around the golf course.- Maintenance of bunkers. Shoveling, raking, and leveling sand so that bunkers remain functional. Also removing any grass or weed from bunkers.- Tutoring younger summer workers- Repairing any dead grass patches at greens.- Collecting golf balls and maintaining teeing ground at range.- Many other miscellaneous tasks. Basically I was jack-of-all-trades.Working at Golf Talma Oy was a nice way for a high school student to gain work experience and spend summer in a relaxing environment. I worked here during three summer vacations. The tasks were a good mixture of freedom and responsibility and in addition were variable and rewarding because you could immediately see the results of your work. Even though the tasks were not that difficult, they still required preciseness and speed, because there was a lot to do and the golf course had to be in shipshape for players. As a bonus I received a nice tanning for working outdoors for whole summer. Only rainy days were a slight discomfort but I think it is just a question of attitude and proper clothing. Either way I really enjoyed working at Golf Talma Oy.
