Building real systems is where the main challenges are. Built highly successful robotics centers in Europe and US. Wrote the first EU robotics strategy and was the main editor of the US National Robotics strategy 2009, 2013, 2016, 2020 and 2024, which is the basis for the US National Robotics Initiative. The center was sponsored by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. It involved ~ 20 faculty and on average 15 PhD students. As the executive director Henrik was responsible for overall creation and setup of the center. The center has been involved in a large number of EU projects in many instances as the coordinator. From 1999-2006 Henrik was also the Coordinator of the European Robotics Research Network (EURON) which today involves more than 200 universities and companies across all EU countries. EURON was key to creation of the robotics programmes in the 6 and 7 framework program. The position also involved research on mapping, navigation, estimation, and vision. Results have been transferred to industries such as Electrolux, ABB, Partek, Daimler, Siemens, PerMobil and WEDA. -
