Profile bio

About Henrik Schønau-Fog

I am a R&D catalyst and with more than 30 years of experience, my specialty has become the convergence of near-future media-, game-, film- and AI technologies. My work is fueled by these questions: - How can the real-time possibilities of state-of-the-art computer graphics be harnessed creatively for virtual production of film, TV and animations?- How can we use innovative game-, film- and media technologies to create engaging, interactive experiences, education and stories with a purpose - that perhaps even makes the world a better place?- How can game engines be exploited for the creation of adaptive story worlds, interactive storytelling experiences, transformational games, gamification, e-learning and motivational (online) learning environments?- And above all: How to make sure that all these kinds of experiences are engaging and make an impact? My assessment tools and theories of the motivational drivers behind the feeling of being ‘Hooked’ on digital games, film, TV and interactive media have been used over two decades for assessing user-, player-, audience- and learner engagement. In my teaching I am using enhanced learning models, deep gamification and game design & development to motivate for learning anywhere. I teach and supervise projects in the areas of virtual production, real-time film-making, game design and -development, adaptive story worlds, interactive storytelling, emergent narratives, animation, user and player evaluations as well as cutting edge media technologies. I am the founder and director of the ViZARTS Collaboratorium - a cross-disciplinary exploratorium connecting filmmakers, animators and game developers with tech experts and state-of-the-art media technologies. The goal is to let filmmakers and techies develop novel cinematic experiences and (interactive) narrative storytelling experiences for large screens and other formats. I am moreover the co-founder and co-director of the ‘Samsung Media & Innovation Lab for Education’, which has the goal of using state-of-the art technologies to address societal challenges, the UN Goals and to engage for learning. I also have a background as entrepreneur, helping several start-ups, for example as a co-founder of Scandinavia’s first motion capture studio, MoCap Copenhagen in 1999. I am an active researcher in the 'Association for Research in Digital Interactive Narratives' and am currently also co-directing the Center for Applied Game Research, an inter-faculty center that aims to conduct interdisciplinary applied game research.

Listed skills include User Experience, Concept Development, Animation, Editing, and 45 others.
