I believe the need to be heard and acknowledged is an innate part of human existence. I strive first to understand the individual and their concerns, then to provide guidance and support that is based on scientific knowledge and clinical expertise. Collaboratively, my patient and I identify desired outcomes and through discussion, facilitate insight, setting the foundation for more effective coping and greater confidence. Depending on the individuals needs, therapy may involve elements of skill development, emotional release, acceptance, gaining clarity and understanding, forgiveness, developing a healthier perception of self and others, and identifying resources. Psychologists are scientifically informed, highly trained professionals. The impact of our work is difficult to quantify. Improvements in productivity, health, longevity, relationships and well-being may all resonate from changes occurring within the privacy of one's soul. It is elusive to conceptualize because of the complexity of human suffering. Therapy is much more than teaching and much deeper than a simple conversation. We are an essential element on the front line of treatment. We witness the intimate details of pain, and the torturous conflicts with self and others, both phantom and reality. We see and feel the relentless pounding of overwhelming waves of emotion. Beneath all this, we strive to maintain clarity. We try to discern truth and meaning, while fueling the warmth of hope and the strength of purpose. In addition to experience providing direct clinical services in both outpatient and inpatient settings, I have also been responsible for providing clinical training and supervision of doctoral level psychology interns and post doctoral psychology residents. I developed and implemented numerous quality assurance projects improving organizational efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness. Provided consultation to multidisciplinary treatment teams. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, I have also lived in South Florida and moved to Jacksonville in 1996. For recreation I enjoy nature, hiking, camping, photography and writing poetry.
