The effectiveness of these interventions were monitored through camera traps and sandpad sites. • With QPWS in the Wide Bay area, I provided technical support and training in field techniques for baseline biodiversity surveys which were subsequently applied in Ban Ban National Park.• With Landcare Australia, I carried out mark-recapture survey of the Mary River turtle.• With the Platypus Conservation Initiative at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), gill & fyke nets were used to sample platypus in the Severn River to investigate the impact of dams on population ecology and movement. Also involved in a preliminary study on the use of scent as a means of non-lethal control of wild dogs with UNSW.• With University of Queensland, I am working on developing a prioritization framework for focusing management efforts on invasive/introduced mammals and birds. Provided logistics for Tanzania wide elephant survey. Aerial census for elephants were carried out in following ecosystems: Serengeti, Tarangire-Manyara, Katavi-Rukwa, Moyowosi-Ugalla, Burigi-Biharamulo, Selous, and Ruaha-Rungwa. The field work of the $800,000 project was completed 15th November. Report writing and data checking completed by March 2015. Reports finally released in June 2015 highlighting an overall decrease in the elephant population of Tanzania.

My role was to develop and implement the Project Preparation Phase by working closely with the Wildlife Division and Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI), as well as all other key stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of this phase. Managed the field data collection for the Serengeti Lion Project, which involved:• Managing the field budget, and other logistical concerns (e.g. keeping three cars mobile). • Maintaining the demographic data for the Ngorongoro Crater lions.• Tracking and monitoring 350 lions in 24 prides in a 2500km2 area, and maintaining one radio collar per pride. • Giving regular lectures on the Serengeti lions and involvement in five wildlife filming projects.

Volunteer research work focusing on the intensive collection of behavioural data on breeding systems, foraging technique/success, weight gain/loss, inter-group interactions, pup care/parental investment and dominance hierarchies for 13 meerkat groups. Managed the life history database and carried out data analysis on the influence of environmental variables on meerkat fecundity.
