MY BIGGEST LESSON:I learned to imitate a traditional illustration style using digital illustration tools and deepened my understanding of said tools in the process. I imitated a watercolor style of coloring using various combinations of digital paint brushes in Adobe Photoshop. I even deepened the illusion by adding false paper texture and surface imperfections to the image.Project overview:I was hired to do 28 full color illustrations for "A Visit with a Snowman," a profound book made in the children’s book style, although the writing and message is meant to be appreciated by adults as well. The book was published in 2021 and was written by Matthew Carcieri, author of “Prince: A Life in Music” and “Bleed a Creed.”My Responsibilities:- Divide text of the book, deciding what text goes on each page- Character Concept Art for main character- Creature Concept Art for snowman character- Environment Concept Art- Design overall visual aesthetic for the book- Work within given page dimensions for printing- Work within given resolution specifications for printing- Create thumbnail sketches for page layouts- Illustrate pages in pencil- Finalize illustrations in ink- Scan inked illustrations into Adobe Photoshop- Color pages digitally using Adobe Photoshop- Format illustrations for final page layout with text included

MY BIGGEST LESSON:I learned how to collaborate on an artistic project with a non-artist. Instead of working from my own creative vision as I had done in the past, I had to learn how to work under the direction of someone who was unfamiliar with art and artistic language. I learned to interpret the author's words and translate them into an image that was a reflection of his original creative vision.Project overview:I was hired to do 32 full color illustrations for "Little Lamont," a motivational children’s book written by professional basketball player Lamonte Thomas. MY BIGGEST LESSON:I learned how to transform my art from a personal passion project into an actual viable product in the real world. Under the guidance of award winning comic strip artist Will Henry, I printed and sold copies of the completed graphic novel at Rhode Island Comic Con 2019. This process included:- Print physical copies of book- 3d design and 3d print characters from the book for display- 3d design and 3d print vehicles from the book for display- Promote my comic con appearance on social media- Print promotional posters and banners for displayProject overview:I wrote and illustrated "Escape From Planet Osiris," a science-fiction graphic novel about a rescue mission to a mysterious planet, and how the mission goes horribly wrong. Through my internship with FabNewoprt, I participated in their Design, Make, Manufacture program. This course taught each step in the process of bringing a product from idea to reality. Initial concept sketching (Design), building many prototype ideations of the product (Make), and finally how to scale up the production to a profitable level (Manufacture).
