I have acquired over twenty five years of expertise and experience as a clinician, medical administrator and academic medical educator. I possess broad based experience in the field of medicine. I have worked as a clinical physician and physician administrator in both the public and private sectors, academic and none academic environments. I have keen awareness and insight into health care delivery systems, current challenges for health care delivery systems and barriers to access for the consumer. I have run clinical services in Psychiatry and developed programs and services to maximize delivery of competent healthcare with quality outcomes to patients while protecting the health care deliverers from excessive fatigue and burnout.As an Administrator I have provided leadership to the Department of Psychiatry during a 5 year interim appointment as Head of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois. During my tenure the Department's research budget grew by 25% placing the Department in the top 20 of academic psychiatry departments nationally receiving funding from the NIH. Oversaw the clinical, research and education activities of over 425 faculty and staff. Responsible for recruiting top notch researchers and clinician educators into the Department. Facilitated along with College of Medicine Team the recruitment of a top notch research group in child and adolescent psychiatry. Finally I led a successful medical practice plan with reserves that were in the black.As an educator I have overseen the restructuring of two programs (Howard University and University of Illinois) in Psychiatry. Currently serving as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at University of Illinois and DIO. Responsible for maintaining the accreditation of all programs, overseeing curriculum development, facilitating teaching methodologies and processes for program, faculty and trainee development and evaluation.
