Rev. Henry Edmonds was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but has made his home in NC since 1979. Rev. Edmonds and his wife Mildred met at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC during the height of the Civil Rights Movement in 1962. It was during the Civil Right marches led in Raleigh by the students at Shaw University that Rev. Edmonds first became actively involved in civil rights beyond his card-carrying NAACP membership. Organizing, marching, and demonstrating to integrate public facilities landed him and other student activist in jail but they continued to march and demonstrate.

Program CoordinatorDuke Jun 1998 - PresentDuke University Medical CenterAs the AACOP Program Coordinator at the Bryan ADRC it is my responsibility to coordinate educational events including speakers, exhibits, seminars, and workshops relating primarily to the diagnoses, management and treatment of African-Americans with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia. I also assist with recruitment of African-American participants for clinical studies. My major emphasis is on systemic changes in the way Alzheimer ’s disease researches is approached in the African-American community and provide researchers, the information, resources, and support needed to better understand the challenges associated procurement and retention of African-Americans. My overall mission is to develop and nurture a more trusting relationship between researchers at the ADRC and the African-American community so that families will be able to make better choices concerning the care and treatment of their loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease.
