Henry Germain-McCarthy obtained his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Kansas and completed a NIMH postdoctoral fellowship at New York University Medical Center. He worked for seven years as Director of Psychosocial Research at a federally-funded disability research and training center in New York and then taught at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center for 31 years. He served as Associate Editor of two peer-reviewed journals: Rehabilitation Education (1993-1999) and Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin (2000-2017). Also, he designed and produced two educational films on the legacies of two prominent women in rehabilitation counseling and psychology, Dr. Susan Daniels and Dr. Beatrice Wright. He is a former President of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association; and is on the New Orleans Mayor's Advisory Council on Citizens with Disabilities. His main interests are: understanding of the psychosocial, cultural, and environmental aspects of the experiences of physical disability and aging; supporting consumer-provider partnerships that promote career development, holistic wellness, and spiritual fulfillment within the processes of rehabilitation, disability accommodation, and social inclusion; fostering collaborative learning and community service in education; engaging in advocacy for advancement of human rights, social justice, global peace, and quality of life for all. His academic and consulting work has taken him throughout the U.S., including Hawaii and the Virgin Islands, as well as Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Scotland, and Sweden. He and Yvelyne, his wife of 40+ years, are very proud of their grown sons, Julian and Germain. Namaste!
