Henry Loo is Head of Projects (and Maintenance) at Cancer Research UK, a leading medical charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. He is responsible for the smooth running of various projects and building maintenance activities of its estate.He graduated in 1982 with a degree in Quantity Surveying and qualified as Chartered Surveyor in 1984. He received his Master degree in Project Management at the University of Reading in 1992 with a dissertation on the Need for Changes in the Surveying Professional, advocating a common core approach to education and training for future Chartered Surveyors across the 2 main divisions of property and construction.His 30 years career in Construction spans across Clients, Contractors and Consultants. Between 1990 and 2000, he was a Project Manager with Kajima and worked on a number of landmark projects including the award winning 88 Wood Street project nominated for Sterling Prize in 2000. As a Client, he champions Lean Thinking in construction, a philosophy modeled on the Toyota Production System to identify & eliminate wasted effort and process, close collaboration & integration of supply chain, and emphasis on the design, planning & delivery of customer value. He led 2 Constructing Excellence delegations to Japan in 2007 and 2009 and identified how a set of closely choreographed process, culture & lean principles can consistently delivered better quality, cheaper and faster projects; achieving customer satisfaction and profitability.He is Honorary Deputy Chairman of Constructing Excellence - Japanese Affairs and frequent speaker on Lean Construction related seminars and lectures.Publications:- The Cultural Construction Class - Lean Management Journal March 2010- Report of the CE Study Tour to visit Japan‟s Construction Industry May 2009, joint author & editor - Constructing Excellence
