Profile bio

About Henry Nitz

I currently work with Lost Boys as a software developer, primarily on backend systems involving web server applications, databases, tooling, and everything else that goes into developing video games with an online experience. I also help out on the game client. Since joining Lost Boys I've gained further skills around development projects and industry practices. Skills:- Programming: C#, Python, C++, Javascript- Scripting: Powershell- Technical Research/Architectural Designs- Agile Development- Game Development, Programming, and DesignSoftware:- Visual Studio, VS Code- Version Control: Perforce, GIT, SVN- Unity3D- MySQL/MariaDB, Redis, SQL Server ManagementA core strength is being a self-learner. A story of my journey into programming and the tech world. In college I was on the designer track. For a class I decided to learn some basic programming to add interactivity in a Unity3D project. Starting with JavaScript in an old OOP book in the library soon I was writing scripts and helping add life to our first projects. Soon after upperclassmen need help on a larger project but written this time in C#, being brave I offered my assistance. Taking up the challenge I spent a week to learn C# and found I was able to help implement several features for their project. Finding some passion for building things in code I continued learning C# and Unity3D in depth outside of classes. When my team’s capstone project came up I helped code not only features for the game but also extensions in Unity3D to speed up work (one favorite being a map tool cutting map building from 3 hours to 20 min). On my first job I continued to learning focusing now on industry standards, new concepts like design patterns and system structure, .Net framework and open-source. As the department grew I helped by learning the tools and skills needed, such as how to deploy and maintain the in-house software, handling of sensitive data and it’s security, and proper version control practices. This lead to a promotion. My second job took me through the launch of .Net Core, DevOps, and project management. Now at Lost Boys, I bring broad programming and technical experience with a highly focused and deep experience in many languages. While C# and .Net are still my primary languages I now have added Python to it as well. My experiences in traditional business software but also my experiences in school around video games has let me plan and develop server applications from the ground up, seeing successfully yearly launches where millions of players have been served from our software.

Listed skills include Game Design, Unity3D, C#, Lua, and 12 others.
