I am currently a research associate managing a lab at Izon Science where I focus on evaluating how our products work for biological applications. I was a biology major at Reed College where I completed my senior thesis on improving and elucidating the mechanisms of PET degradation by a bacterial consortium isolated from a Superfund site. I have a wide variety of interests including synthetic biology, biotechnology, and/or microbiology with a focus on improving the environment or human health. In addition, natural history museums and the research that happens inside and in collaboration with them hold a very special place in my heart. I have a large amount of experience in molecular biology and microbiology, and I have some experience in biochemistry that I would like to expand upon. Fun fact: I was also a nuclear reactor operator for a few years while I was in college.

• Help students in the introductory biology courses at Reed College with homework, studying, labs, and data analysis.• Assists with a large variety of subjects ranging from microbiology to genomics, plant evolution, and cell biology.
Portland, Oregon, United States
• Used both bioinformatic and wet-lab methods in order to find a novel PETase responsible for the plastic degrading ability of a natural bacterial consortium.• Included the use of large gene annotation programs (RAST and IMG) on 5 bacterial genomes and the comparison of each genome with control genomes to find putative PETases. This was coupled with determining secretion signals and protein structural predictions using SignalP-5.0 and Phyre2. • Examined PETase candidates through genomic knockouts using a homologous recombination system.
