• Used both bioinformatic and wet-lab methods in order to find a novel PETase responsible for the plastic degrading ability of a natural bacterial consortium.• Included the use of large gene annotation programs (RAST and IMG) on 5 bacterial genomes and the comparison of each genome with control genomes to find putative PETases. This was coupled with determining secretion signals and protein structural predictions using SignalP-5.0 and Phyre2. • Examined PETase candidates through genomic knockouts using a homologous recombination system.

• Led project on Heat Shock Protein 90 and Heat Shock Protein 60 expression profiles in mutation accumulation lines in Daphnia magna across multiple locations to further elucidate the mechanisms of heat shock proteins as ‘mutational capacitors’. • Included the use of RNA extractions and RT-qPCR for measuring gene expression.• Aided in upkeep of algae bioreactors and Daphnia stocks.• A paper for on this work and it is currently going through peer review.

• Sequenced and analyzed chloroplastic genes and intergenic regions using Sanger sequencing in order to determine the parentage of highly 'promiscuous' ferns in the genus Dryopteris. • Assisted with preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries and genome assembly.• Conducted class for underprivileged students in the DC metro area on using a research herbarium as well as collecting and accessing plant samples.
