  • Ge
    Npi Development Engineer - Electronics
    Ge May 1997 - May 2000
    Boston, Ma, Us
    • Lead electronic engineer of the first AFCI. Partnered with research team to model AFCI circuit in SABER simulator. Used the model and Design of Experiments (DOE) to adjust the ASIC based product to make trip/no-trip decisions based on a wide range of loads and arcing conditions• Integrated electronics and designed physical packaging of the utility pole mounted voltage regulator. Implemented manufacturing of circuit boards and product housing. This drove last point distribution revenue optimization through current and voltage regulation
  • Lightstat
    Project Engineer
    Lightstat Aug 1994 - May 1997
    Barkhamsted, Connecticut, Us
Develop product designs and test systems for electronic thermostats. These thermostats use light detection circuitry as well as temperature measurement circuitry to control HVAC equipment.• Used MATHCAD® to calculate voltage limits for a cost reduced thermostat. These limits are used by the test system to determine if all components in a product under test are the correct value, properly installed, and functioning. Also used MathCAD®, manufactures data, and empirical investigation to refine room light level performance of 3 families of thermostats.• Designed 4 new thermostat circuit boards using ORCAD® board layout software. Coordinated industrial designer, contract draftsperson, model maker, component vendors and circuitry issues to create a new stylized housing for consumer oriented thermostats.• Designed and implemented test systems schematic for 3 families of thermostats. Used ORCAD schematic capture to create the schematics and wrote and debugged code in MS QuickBasic® and TransEra HTBASIC®. Interfaced to the HP multimeter and HP universal counter via an IEEE-488 card. Controlled the custom relay matrix via digital I/O cards. Selected and coordinated construction by technician and vendor of the custom relay matrix and bed of nails.• Investigated and implemented oil bath calibration method to calibrate all new products. Included research on bath manufactures, specifications, and price as well as product fixturing, thermistor cleaning and effects of oil on the product components.• Investigated and traced field problems caused by dendrils created by humidity and circuit board contamination. Assisted in development of aqueous based cleaning systems.• Coordinated movement of telephone service from old location to new location
  • Structured Information Systems
    Consultant-Contractor
Structured Information Systems Jan 1992 - Aug 1994
Developed product designs for clients. Projects included:• Documented circuit packs including Erasable Programmable Logic Devices (EPLD) and 8751 and 80188 microcontrollers for a PC based PBX/Digital Phone simulator used to develop and test AT&T digital phones.• Devised and documented the test process used to verify new product designs as a part of the AT&T ADT ISO 9001 “Tiger Team”. This team was formed after internal ISO audits revealed missing processes that could result in non-compliance and consequent failure to pass the “real” ISO audit by Lloyd’s of London.• Designed and developed hardware (using Cadnetix CAD) and firmware (8051 assembler) for a microcontroller based expansion module for AT&T’s digital Private Branch Exchanges. This module (used in conjunction with a telephone) provides customers 24 buttons and 42 lamps to access additional lines and features of the PBX. This module replaces two older modules, is lower in cost, and generates about $500,000.00 in annual revenue. Devised a simulator to test the module prior to the availability of the telephones.• Designed (using ORCAD) and developed hardware (using Cadnetix CAD) and physical packaging (using Micrografx Designer) for a microcontroller based test system for AT&T’s new line of digital telephones. This test system was used to develop the digital telephones prior to the availability of the PBX port circuit packs. The system is also used by AT&T to test the final assembly integrity of millions of telephones in production to ensure product quality.• In addition: Identified poor testing of site wiring as significant factor in high “No Trouble Found” rates of AT&T digital telephones. Procuring licensing for AT&T technology for a small telecommunications firm. Investigated PBX production from used components for sale to small countries.
  • At&T
    Systems Consultant
    At&T May 1990 - Dec 1991
    Dallas, Tx, Us
Coordinate sale and installation of Private Branch Exchanges and related equipment and provide after sale support for a $14 million annual national account.• Configured systems and created proposals that resulted in the installation of five new systems, the expansion of 10 systems and the move of 10 systems. Total revenue: $300,000.• Managed $250,000 project to install Local Area Network wiring in 60 offices in six months.
  • At&T Bell Laboratories
    Member Of Technical Staff
    At&T Bell Laboratories May 1987 - May 1990
    Holmdel, New Jersey, Us
Developed product designs for manufacture by AT&T factories and provided on-going support for these designs as lead Circuit Engineer. The proprietary protocol data modules used a variety of microprocessors (8051, 8088, 80188) to provide various interfaces (RS232D/Hayes®, V.35, AT&T ACU) to AT&T digital Private Branch Exchanges.• Scheduled (with Timeline® PC software package) and led team (by soliciting and gaining team buy-in), to meet all milestones leading to quality production prototypes.• Developed test requirements for timing and voltage parameters and coordinated Electro-Magnetic Interference, Electro-Static Discharge, and Underwriters Laboratories testing.• Developed hardware and firmware allowing products to measure themselves for quality final assembly. Consulted with factory test engineers to ensure that factory final test enhanced current test methods. Received individual performance award.• Coordinated re-design of five member product line to move production of 14,000 data modules per year, from one factory to another.
  • At&T Bell Laboratories
    Senior Technical Associate
    At&T Bell Laboratories May 1981 - May 1987
    Holmdel, New Jersey, Us
Assisted with development of earlier data module product designs.• Assigned work, mentored, and trained other technicians on team.• Developed test documentation and methods platform used for multiple designs of data modules.• Reduced costs on existing product design and prevented a lawsuit by proving that design was not the cause of fire at customer location. Received Council of Leaders award.• Created Electro-Static Discharge immunity in data module product line by testing and modifying designs. Resulted in higher quality products and increased customer satisfaction. Evolved design knowledge into standard techniques for printed wire board layout. Received Exceptional Contribution award
