From discovery through to delivery, I support and lead teams to transform services to be centred around the user. I’ve gained invaluable experience from the early days of GDS, where I took one of the 25 GOV.UK exemplars from Alpha to Live. This knowledge has been transferred from the public sector to the private sector, helping organisations see the impact that user-centred design can have.Having worked as part of a technical delivery team for several years, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to build a successful digital service. My role now is to ensure that delivery teams build and maintain empathy for their users. I involve the team and stakeholders in all stages of the service design process, whether that’s running design studios or presenting designs/findings to senior leadership.Working with researchers and analysts we seek to understand user needs, to help us make the service frictionless. I can take an idea and rapidly build it as a prototype, so that we can test it. At various points in my career, my versatility has meant I’ve taken the role of content/interaction/service designer and on several occasions user researcher.I am privileged to have worked on such life-changing public services such as “NHS COVID-19 app”, “Find an apprenticeship” and the award-winning “Apply for a Blue Badge”. Encountering such diverse people, on a global level, means I have empathy for all the types of users a service may have. I’m an accessibility advocate, giving presentations/training and writing content on the subject.
