Set the strategy roadmap and vision for the Web Hosting Services Platform in close collaboration with the development heads of IT and Architecture.Major Achievements• Websphere Application and Portal Server 5.1 and 6.x product engineering for Solaris 10 and zOS completed on time within budget for hosted applications and independent silo applications.• New automated configuration management solution developed on Tivoli Provisioning Manager, which reduced the entire environment setup from 6 weeks to 1 week.• Infrastructure monitoring solution migrated from WSAM 5 to ITCAM 6 for Websphere• Expanded services of the hosting environment internationally into APAC.• Initialized offshoring activities to reduce total costs by up to 20%.• Developed a project management office for all project management and external governance and communication on project deliveries.• Setup a governance structure to prioritize capacity, requirements management, and demand management with the business through monthly steering committee meetings.

Lead infrastructure engineering solutions for all Unix platforms across the multiple UBS Groups. Lead a global team of engineers located in Chicago, NY, London, and Zurich responsible for engineering Unix solutions across all of UBS. Set the platform strategy and provide solutions for an environment with over 30,000 servers globally deployed within UBS. Develop roadmaps with the business area IT heads and architecture to drive new technology and standards for enterprise infrastructure. Lead large server RFPs in coordination with UBS IT Vendor Management for many different vendors to find the best, cost efficient and reliable solutions for all of UBS. 3rd level network engineering support to the Internet NSFNet backbone for all IBM RS/6000 hardware on this network. Network Engineer for the IBM Global Network consisting of RS/6000 Unix servers, Cisco routers, IBM routers with T1, T3, FDDI, Ethernet links. Setup IP and IPX on Cisco Routers for customers of IBM Internetworking offering. Design an email infrastructure for IBM OS/2 Warp Internet users. Sendmail is the MTA for this design. Configure a TIS firewall between the corporate network and the Internet for the purpose of a mail gateway. Configured an appropriate sendmail.cf changes to handle mail between the Internet and the corporation. Configure and install a Domain Name Server that talks to the mail gateway for IBM, ibm.net. Registered ibm.net domain with InterNIC and managed this domain with one other engineer. Wrote a gated configuration file generator to help automate the task of configuring gated on network backbone routers.

Manage and operate 3 campus computer sites totaling over 200 systems and terminals. Provide connectivity and acquisition of new networking equipment and engineer and maintain network servers running Novell Netware 3.11. Maintain networking and interoperability with Sun workstations and Sequent Symmetry systems over a TCP/IP network. Manage email and news traffic through a SMTP gateway from the Netware servers to Sun workstations. Unix System Administrator for an AT&T 3B2 and NeXT workstations. Administer bridges, routers, Gatorboxes, hubs, and gateways connected to the campus fiber backbone and out to the University’s SURANet Internet link through a Proteon router.

Manage and maintain a computer lab with over 100 computer systems and terminals. Unix Systems Administration for NeXT workstations connected to the Internet running NeXTSTEP 2.x. Maintain mail, news and other services on the Unix workstations including Unix System Administration tasks. Teach monthly courses on Unix, Macintosh, DOS, and Emacs and also maintain documentation for the Computer Lab and other areas for Unix users.

Provide Personal Computer Help Desk support to all student, faculty, and staff of the University of Iowa on Windows and Macintosh personal computers.
