Developing novel processes for carbon capture and storage and successfully demonstrating these in support of a patent application.

An Innovate UK funded project developing high value products from macroalgae (seaweed), working in close collaboration with seaweed producers and cosmetic companies. The focus of my thesis was in the development of novel methods for the extraction, isolation, purification and characterisation of natural polyphenols, polysaccharides and pigments.I also supervised several undergraduates working in our group and was first point of contact for them to seek advice and guidance in their projects. I gained teaching experience delivering a presentation skills course to undergraduates, as well as demonstrating and marking in undergraduate labs.I took an active interest in the School, serving as president of the School Postgraduate Society, organising and promoting social activities. I also held the position of Staff-Student representative at School meetings.
