    As a member of the Cloud Infrastructure team, I was tasked with expanding and maintaining the Elastic Cloud service across AWS, Azure, GCP, and IBM Cloud. That's lots of Terraform, config management, enterprise software evaluation, security remediation, tool building, team building, and mentorship.I'm proud of upgrading a massive amount (20k+ changes) of terraform code from v0.11 to the latest version at the time (v0.14), which required significant rewrites to fix breaking-changes to the configuration language. This required developing a toolchain to automatically fix common syntax differences, iteratively test changes, and provide an easy interactive editing mode so a human could address any errors or inconsistencies found. Completed the project under-budget, without any downtime, while the codebase was under active development.

    When I joined Highspot as their 12th engineer and first DevOps hire they had a good product, but were wasting days of work each week trying to get it released to their customers. I started by reinforcing the limited operational and release frameworks they had used for years, and when they were stable enough I replaced them with industry-standard tooling and processes, enabling continuous delivery, observability, and more. Highspot is now valued around $2.3b, and I feel proud of the work I did to help them get there.Used GitFlow, Spinnaker, Chef, Terraform, Packer, Prometheus and sheer stubbornness to redefine the software release process from a weekly all-hands-on-deck panic, to a nightly fully-automated operation requiring zero supervision. Upgraded existing hand-built infrastructure from AWS Classic to VPC on modern hardware using the Infrastructure as Code model. Expanded SaaS offering to multiple cloud regions. Improved customer-facing performance by moving static assets to redundant CDNs.
