I graduated from the University of Florida with a J.D in 1975 and I've practiced law since 1976 in Lee, Collier and surrounding counties, about half civil trial practice and half family law for the first 25 years or so. I was President of the Lee County Personal Injury Association in 1998/1999 and President of the Southwest Florida Trial Lawyers Association in 2007/2008. In the last few years I have, for the most part, limited my practice to mediation and arbitration including "hybrid" mediation/arbitrations. I've handled more than 2,000 mediations of primarily civil and family law. I've arbitrated numerous cases over the last 4 years or so, including mediation/arbitration hybrids. I have given a two hour seminar to Florida Rural Legal Services titled "Mediation as a Hostage Negotiation" and given that seminar also as at a meeting of the AFLP and as a one hour Zoom seminar sponsored by the Lee County Bar Association. Since September 2020, I've led a group of arbitrators primarily from Lee and Collier, twice a month, in an informal hour discussion as to various techniques and issues in arbitration and mediation/arbitration. Our participants have included a local judge and Jack Hughes, the mediation/arbitration coordinator for the Lee County mediation/arbitration department. My rate is currently $350 an hour with a two hour minimum (other than Lee County cases coordinated through the Lee County Mediation Department). Mediations and arbitrations are presently being held by Zoom or in person. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Email me at hfried@friedandfried.com to let you know of my availability.
