Background InformationUntil his retirement from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Mr. Herbert Schmid has been a country director and policy advisor for SDC for 30 years. He successfully directed SDC’s country strategies and programmes in three continents (Mozambique, South Africa, Macedonia, Cuba). His tasks included the strategic orientation of the country programmes, the policy dialogue with the respective governments and civil society, the design, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of the programmes, and the management of SDC’s country offices.
