Served as deputy and Trenton bureau chief and State House columnist before becoming Washington correspondent in 2005. After Gannett bought The Record in 2016, I worked in the USA Today Network Washington bureau. Along with contributing to and occasionally managing USA Today congressional coverage, I was the chief reporter covering the overhaul of the tax code in 2017. In Trenton, I was a regular guest on weekly "Reporters Roundtable" show on the statewide public TV station. I also served as a panelist on televised gubernatorial and U.S. Senate debates.

Was recruited from The AP to join the Trenton bureau of the Press, and after several years there was named the first online editor of the paper. In that post, I helped to shape web strategy and develop original content while also managing staff and the daily posting of content from the day's paper.Returned to Trenton as bureau chief after website was up and running.
