Responsibilities included:• Responsible for the Site Wide Control system and data historian which includes.  3 x Siemens PCS-7 systems with redundant servers and a Webserver Fibre and Copper control system infrastructure for Profibus and Ethernet 4 x Hybrid PCS-7 / Step 7 Ring Motor control systems Maintain Plant Pi data historian and extract reports as required. Maintain a SGS Expert control system. Support field staff with fault finding Provide Superintendent coverage Generate departmental budgets.Achievements• Using Osisoft’s PI-AF, developed management reports detailing the effective use of plant power, production losses and downtime• Developed PCS-7 extraction reports to identify current active by-passes in the system and to summarise all the nuisance alarms over a fixed time period. • Retuned most of the PID controllers to suit operational needs. Added feed forward where required.• Developed graphic trends to monitor PID control health.• Inspected and rectified entire Profibus PA and DP network due to poor installation.

• Managing 5 supervisors and 44 indirect reports• Responsible for the mechanical and electrical maintenance of the Utilities section which includes:  4400tpd Acid from Sulphur Plant,  230tph 60 bar Steam Boiler  3 x 18MW Steam Generators 50 km 33 kV Overhead Power line Desalination Plant other water facilities Evaporation Ponds and Tailings facilities Site Village maintenance, 170 Hopetoun Houses Achievements• Implemented an oil conditioning programme to reduced unnecessary oil changes. • Applied corrosion resistant paints to reduce corrosion cause by acid vapours in the air space• Modified designs to use pilot operated valves to replace electrical actuated valves on remote sites.

• Establish a skilled DCS team to manage the DeltaV / Rockwell control systems.• Pre commission all field instruments after the plant was moth balled.• Support the electrical departments with industrial network, VSD issues technical issues.• Fault diagnose and get operation the Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus networks.Achievements• Department with the least site turnover – 3 resignations over 4 years.• Rebuild the existing DeltaV / Rockwell control system in a reliable one – system disruptions were daily in 2010, last major disruption was reported in 2 years ago. • Roll out a graphics upgrade for ASM compliance – “grey scale”, previous graphics took 20 sec to upload.• 10 fold reduction in daily alarms and similar reduction in interlock by passes.• Setup systems that pro-actively monitor by exception the control system health and field instruments.• Linked the DCS with the Lab for seamless analytical data transfer using OPC.• Create a stoichiometric reagent dosing predictor to ensure reactions are completed in the reactor tanks. This lead to significant improvement on product quality.• Created a smart CCD wash water controller with significant recoveries of soluble nickel.• Created weighted parameter using Fuzzy logic matrixes for multivariable control of cyclone clusters.• Applied Theory of Constraints to controls systems to manage bottlenecks.

-Managing 9 direct reports and 50 indirect reports-Carrying legal electrical appointment, under the Zambian Mining Act , for the 100MW operation -Managed change control, improvements of the Siemens / Citect system and Profibus networks-Provided technical support major electrical components such as VSD’s, intelligent MCC’s and slip recovery drives.Achievements-Revised plant alarms using EEMUA 191 and ISA 18.2 as guidelines.-Modified Siemens PLC software so that there is consistency with loop tuning parameters-Investigated and started implementing a reliability strategy for Citect servers, by restructuring the network and splitting the servers.-Identified and eliminated the root cause for electrical tankhouse fires.-Project managed an emergency water pipeline, this included 11KV overhead electric power distribution, intermediate pumps and 8 km of 500mm pipes.-Commissioned and operated a 10MW power Plant

-FEED studies, capital budgets, scope of work, and schedules for BFS - detail design – commissioning and handover. -Responsible for managing EPCM Control / Instrumentation / ICT contractors on the Tati Activox® and DMS projects.-Gave operational support in terms of optimisation and problematic fault finding.-Participated in contract closures in order to minimise the company’s exposure – cost savings of 40% were achieved.

-Primary responsibility was for the protection control systems of the turbine and generator using Mitsubishi and ABB 800xA controllers.-Generated general instrumentation specification control philosophy fora new technology nuclear plant.
