David Hercot is a Medical Doctor (MD), with more than 15 years of experience in Public Health and Family Practice. He holds a MSc in Public Health - Health Systems Management and Policy. He published more than 20 papers listed on Google Scholar.He currently works as Medical Coordinator for the prevention within VivalisPreviously, he has been advisor to the Ministers Trachte and Maron on environment and health, prevention and on improving the efficiency of primary health care services in the Brussels Region.Between 2013 and 2019 he was project manager at the Brussels Ministry of Health and scientific collaborator at the Brussels Health and Social Observatory.Between 2008 and 2012, he was working at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp in the Health Policy unit focusing on the link between international health policies and developing countries’ national health systems. His main duties have been to strengthen the voice of Global South experts in Global Health. He has also been involved in research notably on the removal of user fees in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and on various research projects looking at the scaling up of effective interventions. He has been editor of the International Health Policies newsletter distributed weekly to more than 2500 readers across the world. He is interested in making pluralistic health systems achieve their goals and particularly making them serve members of vulnerable groups and communities. He believes politicians and technicians have a role to play to improve the equity of the health system.Earlier he worked for UNICEF in Niger where he provided support to the MoH for Health System Strengthening and emergency preparedness. He has also worked as a Public Health specialist in Afghanistan and Congo with Medecins du Monde. He has been working in Belgium as a General Practitioner.
