My primary research is focused on issues of authority, accuracy and authenticity in living history interpretation at historic sites. My secondary research concerns Great Lakes colonial and Native American history, also looking at issues of accuracy and authority in museum representation and NAGPRA.

I served as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Western Michigan University's graduate student government, a shared governance organization of the university. I represented graduate student concerns on multiple university committees and before the Board of Trustees. As Chief Financial Officer, I was responsible for the organization's overall budget and served as chair of the Graduate Financial Allocations Committee, administering five different grants to individual students and student organizations.

As the Frederick S. Upton Fellow, I assisted staff of the HMCC with all aspects of museum administration. These tasks included collections management, interpretation, program development and evaluation, social media content, and exhibit planning, design and installation. This fellowship for PhD students at Western Michigan University studying Public History was made possible by a generous grant from the Upton Foundation.

As Education and Public Programming Intern, I worked in all areas of visitor services, including program development, interpretation, event set-up, and exhibit design and installation. Throughout my tenure, I interpreted the village buildings to adult visitors and school groups. For school groups, I led demonstrations in wood-stove cooking, candle-making, and blacksmithing, as well as conducting one-room schoolhouse programs. I assisted with set-up and programming for such annual events as the Father's Day Car Show, Civil War Muster Weekend, and Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. I also developed, oversaw and evaluated program development for a weekly YMCA day-camp which visited the park with 15-20 5-8 year-olds.

I transcribed oral histories of Tillers International staff, interns and volunteers under the supervision of Dr. Robert Duke. These oral histories were conducted in the course of a project detailing the history of the organization.

Created and implemented policies and procedures for accessioning, deaccessioning, collections use and artifact storage. Maintained PastPerfect 4 artifact reference database. Assisted in monitoring and maintaining tribal cemeteries, as well as the reburial of human remains and sacred objects repatriated under NAGPRA. Assisted with all public research requests.

Supervised Historic Downtown Mackinac and Fort Mackinac interpretive staff. Trained, evaluated, and scheduled staff members and volunteers. Maintained and developed high quality interpretive programs for diverse audiences. Responsible for large collection of historic and reproduction objects and costumes utilized in programming. Researched, developed, and analyzed new interpretive programs and methods to better serve visitors.

Interpreted Historic Downtown Mackinac and Fort Mackinac for visitors through demonstrations, informal interpretation, formal tours/lectures, and interactive activities. Performed extensive archival research to inform interpretive activities. Traveled to schools to present in-classroom interpretive programs satisfying state curriculum requirements for history and social studies.
