Heritage Tiling began in 1982 but I have been restoring tiles for over 40 years, I have restored floors of over 1,800 sq metres of Victorian encaustic & geometric tiles down to less than a sq metre. I do actually mean it when I say that the floor or tile scheme is important but not particularly the value or location or type.I have travelled all over the globe either installing new tile schemes in geometric or mosaic and sometimes installing small or large cut-tiles murals or intricate mosaics.I have had brilliant contracts that inspired me, and others that made me want to give up, however because each contract is unique I have never lost interest in my work.After more than 40 years, I regret that little interest is shown in proper promotion of training for trainers in all aspects of Heritage Skills and I’m sad that I may never get the chance to pass on my very hard won skill-set.I have in the past also worked on very large commercial tile contracts so my back ground includes being able to project manage contracts in excess of 6,000 sq metres of tiling in specialist situations & using specialist products such as epoxy adhesive & grouts.largest commercial contracts include some of our motorway services.biggest commercial project was 34,000 sq yards in epoxy adhesive and epoxy grout.Core work is restoration of Victorian encaustic (patterned tiles) & geometric tiles ( plain coloured tiles in different shapes ) That work varies from Stately homes to churches and from Grade 1 listed /Grade 2+/Grade 2 and the equivalents elsewhere. I also restore other Historic tile schemes = mosaic any type including Smalti, Terracotta, marble , stone and so on, re-creating original geometric & encaustic tiled floors using Victorian reproduction tiles or installing new tile schemes is also a big part of my work load.Plus deep cleaning of any tiled floor and sealing is another aspect of the Co's work, often transforming a dowdy floor that might have been skipped back to a stunning worthwhile feature.
