Profile bio

About Herman Jorgensen

After working as a Supply Chain Manager for over 25 years and running my own business for two years, I picked up an opportunity to work with at-risk youth in North Memphis through the Catholic Diocese of Memphis in 2012. I subsequently taught for two years at Holy Names of Jesus and Mary Catholic School. Unfortunately, a shortfall of funding closed the school in July 2014, but not before graduating 18 students in May 2014 and sending 12 on to private, college prep high schools. Now all 18 graduated high school in May 2018. 10 graduated from private, college prep high schools of which 9 went to college and one has joined the U.S. Army, 2 were accepted in college leadership programs. One received a 4-year full ride scholarship along with being a part of their emerging leadership program. These are students who come from an area of Memphis where only 65% of the neighborhood students even graduate high school and the local students score an average of 20 points below the state average for high school students. I am very proud of these student's academic achievements and the teachers that made this possible.I began teaching at Saint Benedict at Auburndale High School (SBA) in the fall of 2014. Seven of my Holy Names students joined me at SBA and excelled there. With the assistance and encouragement of our school's leadership, I started up the STEM Lab program at SBA in 2016. I am currently teaching three STEM Engineering courses (Engineering Essentials, Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering). SBA is utilizing the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Curriculum for these Engineering courses. In 2019, with the strong support of the WozU foundation, I implemented a one semester Drone Course at Saint Benedict. The course consists of mastering drone flight controls, the complete construction of a drone, and the rules/regulations of drone flight and the current uses of drones.I am Tennessee state certified to teach high school mathematics and history. I am also licensed in middle school curriculum. In July 2016, July 2017 and June 2020, I completed Project Lead the Way's (PLTW) instructor certifications for their Engineering Essentials, Introduction to Engineering Design, and Principles of Engineering courses.

Listed skills include Education Services, Logistics, Transportation, Program Management, and 25 others.
