Located within two miles of the Grest Plantation where she was born in MIdway, Georgia in 1848, the Center facilitates space for Historical Reflection, Community Dialogue and Writing, & Environmental Justice Advocacy. We host quarterly conferences and seminars relating to those factors that influenced Susie Baker King Taylor to become a great women, i.e. nature, spirituality, natural ecosystems, education, and the empowerment of young women and girls. Program Development, Community Relations, and management of a collection of 400 objects in North Georgia’s only university-related Civil War center dedicated to the collection, exhibition, and study of the Civil War era. Coordinated two successful national Civil War symposia that explored broader Civil War themes. Hermina Glass formerly worked for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Historic Preservation Division in African American Programs where she investigated historic sites, engaged African American communities in preservation advocacy, coordinated special programs, and served as assistant editor of Reflections, a publication of the Georgia African American Historic Preservation Network.
