Profile bio

About Adrian Hernandez, Ph.D.

I am a first-generation, bilingual and bicultural Mexican American counseling psychologist and graduate of Western Michigan University (WMU). As a doctoral candidate, I completed a one-year predoctoral psychology internship with Yale School of Medicine’s Clinical and Community Psychology program. I am also a graduate of Grand Valley State University (GVSU) where I obtained a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. As professional in the field, I tend to work with adolescents and young adults, but have experience working with individuals of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds. I aim to serve my community in a manner that is multiculturally-competent, warm, strengths-based, and effective. I offer and have worked to provide accessible Spanish-speaking psychological services to my community. My special interests include neurodevelopment concerns, behavioral issues, adolescence and young adulthood, immigrant experiences, justice-involved individuals, life transitions, peer relationships, ethnic-racial identity development, school issues, coping with stress, as well as testing and evaluation. As a researcher, I am currently focused on investigating issues including bolstering academic well-being among students of color, promoting culturally responsive psychological practice, and resilience development among Hispanic/Latine peoples. In all work that I do, I aim to advocate for marginalized populations as I move forward on my path to becoming an academic health service psychologist.
