Hernando Burgos-Soto is an internationally trained mathematician with over twelve years of experience, teaching and researching in different Colleges and Universities in Latin America and Canada. Hernando is the author of several math papers in which he introduced some new mathematics concepts and extended some celebrated theorems of knot theory. Hernando is also co-author of the textbook Mathematical Logic: Class Notes. At the moment, Hernando’s research interests are focused in Mathematical Finance, and more specifically in the use of numerical analysis, probability distributions, and statistical models to determine fair price of securities and portfolio risk. As a professor, Hernando has been recognized as innovative and approachable teacher. His teaching style has been used as a practical example in the postgraduate program for training of new college teachers at George Brown College as how to bring to life concepts like the icebreaker and subject-centered teaching. Indeed, Hernando’s approach of teaching is a particular way of using the subject-centered model in which the instructor and the students deal with the subject by following four well-marked guidelines: necessity of learning, enjoyment in learning, moving from easy to difficult, and practice.

I spent more than a year calculating the Khovanov homology of these knots. For each pair of mutant knots that I tried, the Khovanov homology was invariant. To calculate the Khovanov homology I was using the Mathematica package KnotTheory'.Tutored mathematics courses ranging from Algebra to Vector Calculus, to undergraduate students at the Innis College Math Centre.
