While seeking a new CFO role, I undertook interim assignments, specifically in the leisure travel, security and not for profit sectors.

Developer of industry leading solutions for managing accounting, land, production, marketing and venture management challenges for Oil and Gas companies. Approximately 200 employees and annual revenues of US$40 million. Restructured the corporation’s overburdened balance sheet which resulted in the sale of the company to a competitor in April 2011.

Developer of cryptographic security intellectual property and solutions with 125 employees annual revenue of approximately US$25 million. Public company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, until sold to RIM in March 2009.Brought in to restructure the business and financial affairs of the company (Fiscal 2002 – US$60m loss, US$10m debt, US$16m cash on hand and US$10m cash burn per quarter), and poise the company for profitable growth. Mandate also included all financial affairs, regulatory and management controls and reporting, investor relations, fund raising, legal/contract administration, information technology, human resources and corporate governance.Key Achievements:•Developed and implemented a turnaround plan which included a renewed focus on core markets (eliminated non-profitable business activities).•Launched patent licensing initiative which led to a US$25m agreement with the NSA within 18 months, followed by numerous recurring revenue licensing contracts with international companies. •Eliminated debt, achieved 1st profitable year in company’s 20 year history, generated positive cash flow.•Developed solid relationship with the investment community, thereby rebuilding the company’s blemished reputation. In the process, increased the financial analyst following from 2 to 9 and increase shareholder value from Cdn$25m ($0.65 per share) to a high of $325m ($8.65 per share).•Successfully carried out two rounds of public financing. Built up cash reserves to US$45m to help finance patent litigation and acquisitions.•Developed and introduced best practices corporate governance practices at both the Board and management levels thereby forstering a more transparent, effective and efficient Board/management relationship.•Participated actively in the negotiation and the sale of Certicom in March 2009 at 250% premium to market capitalization.
