I AGREE WITH THEM!Accordingly, the purpose of my almost sixty-year career revolved around two simple questions: * How do you make peace as profitable as war? * What is the meaning of human existence? Why are we here? In pursuit of the answers to these questions, I could be found in firms leading in the fields of Sustainability, Electronic Publishing, Residential and Commercial Automation and Control, and Solar. I have Multiple Myeloma, a terminal, incurable cancer and have been retired, "home for hospice.."For the balance of my life, I will join the ranks of Audible Publishers, seeking to educate and entertain people who are ready to craft a new world.

I am a consultant with fifty-year career in what we now call "Sustainability." Although we didn't call it "Sustainability" in the 1970's, as the Business Development Officer for Larry Windes & Associates, Architects & Planners, Aspen, Colorado, I was fluent in enlightened city planning and self-reliant design. In August and September 1974, Larry and I were in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Zuhair Fayez, our intern who was studying at the University of Michigan School of Architecture. Zuhair was returning home to start his practice, and we were there for his wedding. The men's reception was held at the palace of Zuhair's uncle, Sheik Hisham Nazer, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Economic Development. We came from furthest away; Larry was seated on the Sheik's right and I on his left. We talked each other's language, hit it off immediately, and talked all night. Based on a hunch, I asked that the Sheik take a meeting with us the following Sunday morning (the first business day of their week). The Sheik liked us and agreed.We met at the Saudi Arabian Central Planning Organization Headquarters, a massive white marble building. Although Sheik Hisham Nazer was one of the most powerful men in the Middle East, he seated us graciously, and returned to sit behind his desk Smiling, he asked, "OK Jamey, you called this meeting. What have you got for me?"I explained that he needed, a modular, self-reliant housing system that was sufficiently flexible to accommodate his culture. The Sheik declared, "Bring me that and I will buy it."Both of us knew that we were ahead of the technology of the times. Larry and I returned to America and began a process that continues to this day.I can help you.

We had a great run. Vector hired me to take their solar practice national. They had become licensed in every state during their Telecom practice AND had developed a Workflow Automation System to speed highly-similar, industry-specific projects through a rigorous yet rapid professional analysis. In 2015, the industry needed a professional firm to transform providing engineering reviews and certifications to solar installers as a standard engineering service rather than a specialized, bespoke service that could take a week or two or three, Without the standards that Vector introduced, the Solar Industry couldn't grow. Vector's engineering team came and I wish you could have been there. Monster Engineers, like Andrew Marker, the engineer who led the charge in first delivering on "same day turns' as the Group took form.We grew 700% in nine months. The Solar Industry was an independent business and I reached out to hundreds and hundreds of installers, many of whom I am honored to know and enjoy to this day. Having started my first solar company in 1980 and more recently having sold Vector's founder and former Vector Principal Engineer a system for his Utah home, I spoke the language. Vector is now an industry standard; I always aimed to make it an "institution." It grows the way all of Vector's other practice groups do -- with its long term clients and with referrals. My job is done. What fun!P.S. I have more characters, so I will throw down a little observation I have about people in this industry. This industry started to grow in the 1970's. It attracted people who were not entirely convinced that advancing the interests of the Status Quo was the best way to spend their time, Those people's children and grandchildren now populate the sector.I am almost 70, just a common man. I know members of the solar community to be good people, tied the earth and its cycles, and cut from straight grain lumber. We know the universe has an Honor Code! /jwj

Johnston & Company is a privately held consulting company, specializing in electronic publishing. I still own the company, but put it on the shelf when I joined Vector. In the mid-1980's, we pioneered the eBook space, publishing the first electronic book accompanied by access software. We started with an academic search engine, WordCruncher licensed from Brigham Young University.As pioneers in the text retrieval and electronic publishing industry, we had customers in over thirty countries. Our clientele included Peregrine Churchill, a Director of the Winston S. Churchill Family Trust, members of Cambridge University Library's Darwin Letters Project, Hercules, Thiokol, Salt Lake City Corporation, the Oxford University Press, and Dr. Thomas Schwartz, then the Illinois State Historian and Executive Director The Abraham Lincoln Association. My wife got to hold an original copy of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Progressive Power Solutions (www.ppswest.com) specializes in the sales and installation of renewable energy and sustainable technologies, particularly solar photovoltaics and battery backup systems. PPS is a full-service, fully licensed commercial and residential electrical contractor, with customers ranging from small residential systems to micro-grids.

The NRG Bureau specialized in renewable energy, energy efficiency, utility rate analysis, and new design research. The objective of the company is to amalgamate, under one roof, a suite of approaches that businesses can use to better formulate their short and long-term energy strategy.The NRG King Registry (provisional patent applied for) was designed to track the individual components of a solar pv system. This would make it easier to characterize the system as personal as opposed to real property.

In2 Networks specialized in residential automation. We developed products for Honeywell, Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) Loudspeakers, and Lutron.

Established key relationships with strategic business customers that yielded long-term profits and market leverage.

WCTI was an outgrowth of Johnston & Company. We developed a hits-in-context, multi-lingual search engine. At Networld 2000, some of the Google engineering team came to our booth because we were the only other search engine that was doing what they were doing. I took the company public with two exc eptionaly partners (Dan Lunt and Ken Bell). We achieved nearly a half-billion dollar before falling back to earth. We had 13,000 share holders.

Responsible for two retail computer stores. Increased sales by over 400%, from approximately $1.3MM to over $6MM. Won the LDS Church Personal Computer contract the first year it was let (boy, was IBM Corproate upset!).
