Board MemberAdaptive Community Approach Program (Acap) Waukesha Dec 2017 - PresentACAP’s mission is to encourage people with disabilities to achieve their highest potential and to acquire lifelong skills that will enable them to become contributing and valued members within their communities. An Adaptive Community ApproachOur foundational premise is that every person has gifts and talents to share and that a strong community develops out of everyone sharing those gifts. Our PhilosophySince our place is within the context of the community, we do not separate ourselves by segregated facilities or signage denoting our distinction from the community. We are members of it and therefore strive to make our presence visible as fellow citizens and consumers—not visitors.Sponsorship of people who have disabilities and a passion to demonstrate their abilities in the community around them. ACAP is not merely an assemblage of staff and members, but people coming together to work, learn, adapt, and serve the community. We endeavor to build up the larger community and in so doing, discover our valued place within it."We must become the change we wish to create.” ~Gandhihttp://www.acap-waukesha.org

Member Of Working BoardMutual Aid Network (Man) Feb 2016 - PresentRedesigning Work for a Cooperative, Regenerative EconomyThe mission of MANs is “To create means for everyone to discover and succeed in work they want to do, with the support of their community.” http://www.mutualaidnetwork.org~~~~~Communities around the world have long practiced successful models for economic self-sufficiency. Among these mechanisms are:Timebanking which contributes to community building through the mutually beneficial exchange of services among neighborsPrice-based mutual credit which creates liquidity within networks of local businessesCooperative savings and lending which pools resources, builds capacity, and extends community wealthCooperative ownership which provides collective use of resources that are difficult to access individuallyWhile each strategy has been effective in limited local contexts, each can only go so far toward addressing shortcomings in the formal money-based economy.Mutual Aid Networks (MANs) represent a new and unique way to connect these mechanisms intoa system that maximizes the strengths of each one. Together, they provide the tools needed to redesign how resources are pooled and allocated to support meaningful work and to fill unmet community needs.
