About Heather Young, Mba

I'm a purpose-driven leader with 20+ years of experience leading people, projects, and organizations. Caution: I have contagious passion and energy for my work!At heart, I'm a 'people person.' Whether it be coaching team members, working across departments, or collaborating with partners, I try to inspire others through genuine relationships and productive partnerships. Together, we've accomplished some amazing feats:☑ As the first Co-Chair (Japan), initiated and convened 10 sessions at the Science Summit at the 77th, 78th, and 79th UN General Assemblies with 50 speakers; including philanthropists, entrepreneurs, university presidents, and media on topics including communicating social issues, measuring ESG impact and value, and supporting women in STEM—95% of attendees, including staff, felt positively about the sessions; 92% of the partners’ opinions of OIST improved. ☑ Directed 180+ “impact stories” in 5 years, showcasing Mitacs innovation-research partners, including governments, universities, and industry partners like Reebok, Mercedes, Ford Motors, and Ericsson; readers spent 2+ minutes on each story, well above industry benchmarks.☑ As Co-Founder and Executive Director (volunteer) of Lights On, a community-based fund that provides unrestricted grants to charities across Canada, managed all aspects of the philanthropic strategy, including leading grant evaluation/allocating funds to maximize impact and partnering with Make Way as the administrator. On average, each grant helps 600+ individuals and supports 3.5 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.I help organizations protect their brands, grow their reputations, and reach their business objectives. My strategic toolbox includes social impact/responsibility, corporate communications, public relations (PR), thought leadership, media relations, events, stakeholder engagement, community relations, and internal engagement. I bring authentic, proactive, trustworthy, and transparent strategies to life, internally and externally. Additionally—and somewhat unrelated—I'm passionate about swimming because I love inspiring others to accomplish what they didn't think possible. During my two decades with Special Olympics, I'm very proud to have coached more than 300 athletes at the local, national, and international levels to personal-best times!
