Led efforts to optimize both user-facing and developer-facing processes over the course of 10 acquisitions- Ran a number of AI / machine learning efforts for text categorization over millions of articles including novel hyperparameter optimization techniques (see Medium article)- Created a container-based analytics ingestion engine processing billions of events per month on Google Cloud, to a BigQuery backend, over dozens of web properties- Reduced AWS Lambda coldstarts on the company's primary (Apollo) GraphQL + Redis API by 6x using process profiling and hotpath elimination- Migrated from CircleCI to GitHub Actions and brought TypeScript build and test times down from over 10 mins to under 1 min via aggressive dependency minimization and build parallelization- Created ingestion clients in Node.js for multiple APIs (Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Apple News, Amazon), with scheduled ETL jobs to load into BigQuery, combining with internal article data to provide SEO insights for hundreds of stakeholders- Was recognized as an AWS Hero: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/aws-heroes-new-categories-launch/- Responsible for researching, prototyping and optimizing newly released cloud products on AWS and Google Cloud and assessing for internal use

Founded a consultancy to assist growth for a number of customers including:- Uniqlo, responsible for creating and managing the backend of the Uniqlo US mobile site, running in Docker on AWS Auto Scaling Groups, with a Node.js backend and a React frontend- Pubmatic, senior ad tech consultant on an automated guaranteed ad product written in Java (Apache CXF, Jersey, Play, AngularJS frontend)- Mcast, CardStack, dotBC, AWS and blockchain development, primarily on Hyperledger Fabric

Delivered on the long-term technical vision for a public ad-tech company:- Created the core IP: combinatorial auctions with online ads in C# and SQL Server- Built a high-performance ad-decision engine (Node.js and Redis)- Migrated the company and engineering team from ASP.NET Web Pages to ASP.NET MVC and then later to Node.js- Migrated the company infrastructure from on-prem to AWS, including EC2 and DynamoDB- Scaled the engineering team from two developers to twenty- Performed constant optimization of the engineering process to ensure time from code to go-live was always at a minimum- Built a number of innovative products in the automated guaranteed space

Co-founded an asset-management software company primarily aimed at local governments, profitable from day one.- Asset management desktop client written in C# Windows Forms, with a backend in SQL Server- Created a complex simulator to model government budgets over multiple years with constraint programming- Developed and successfully applied for multiple government R&D grants- Scaled the engineering team and process from two developers

Consultancy work with multiple clients, both desktop and web apps. Primarily developing in Java, C# and PHP. Projects ranged from bespoke CMSes to sophisticated realtime combinatorial auction systems.

Helped develop and maintain 3D bone surgery simulation software (for medical students training for cochlear implants). Written in Java (Swing).
