H5 has provided comprehensive document discovery and indexing services for litigation involving several Fortune 50 companies. My responsibilities were ETL and data quality. * Organized physical transportation of large amounts of data on hard drives. * Administered a network of Windows desktops and servers to upload data, extract text and metadata from millions of documents. * Wrote and maintained perl and SQL scripts to transform and load text and relevant metadata into Oracle databases.

Our small QA team handled the testing for every feature, new hardware rollout and patch released by this profitable spam-filtering startup. The work required a familiarity with the SMTP protocol, TLS for email security, and popular mail server software such as Microsoft Exchange and Sendmail. Systems included Solaris and Linux Enterprise Server Edition. My personal responsibilities included: * Met with software developers and product dev to solidify specs / requirements on new features. * Wrote test plans and test cases for new features and for regression. * Wrote testing tools (in perl) to automate tests, and performed manual tests. * Tests covered everything from end-to-end user interactions via our web GUI and email delivery (black box) to single-component tests, including load and performance tests. * To monitor functionality of a crucial new feature, I wrote a daemon that is now used live in production on an ongoing basis.

As part of a MediCal re-imbursement solution for school districts, our team designed and implemented a web-based application that would enable all special education teachers and their managers to submit and track information about all the students passing through the special ed. process. * Analyzed paper-based version of their process and architected a series of web forms to represent the same points. * Designed DB schema to easily catch (and archive, if necessary) all student-related information. * Implemented functionality of forms with HTML & JavaScript, using perl/CGI and PHP to communicate with the back end. * Wrote PHP bug-tracking tool, and web performance tests for QA on each release.

Dealing mostly with our Japanese clients, I was in charge of integrating large databases of information from various sources into the MySql backend of a web-based e-commerce platform.* Analyzing and parsing product data in Japanese and English and adapting it to our existing inventory and strore-catalog schema. * Designing and parsing XML formats to standardize data transfer with clients. * Developing search tools and adapting them for Japanese text. * DB design and implementation to handle new functionality for stores and store managers' tools. * Order-processing algorithms to represent the flow of goods and finances through the system.

Continuation of web-search/business-info integration begun at iAtlas Corp. I was the project lead on acquiring, redesigning and maintaining a large Oracle database and developing tools in perl and C to manipulate and display the data: * Selecting hardware to house a large database (over 10M rows) * Redesigning Oracle database (table content, relations) * Using perl for pattern matching and parsing to structure incoming unstructured data for use in a relational database * Using perl and C (and interprocess communication between the two) for 'fuzzy' matching on high volumes of data. * Process design for enhancing a very large web index with new url-specific data * Improving efficiency of handling of Asian-language text in the index via the auto-recognition of common phrases. * Enhancing the web index with a quickly updated stream-based data source, through a supplementary index with built-in heuristics.

iAtlas, a startup in Virginia and Maryland, integrated web content and business information to provide a directory of businesses on the web. Duties included: * Building processes to verify accuracy of large volumes of data provided by outsourced contracts. The contractors matched company listings with web entities, I used perl / pattern-matching to quantify accuracy and prune out the bad matches. * Developed methods and built algorithms to achieve the contracted functionality in-house. Used Oracle/SQL and perl to manipulate large databases from multiple sources and identify similar records. * Assisted with custom-made web interfaces (perl CGI) that allowed for access to, and manipulation of, the data in the database for specific views and tasks. * Designed a customer-feedback system that allowed for end-users to request changes in data relevant to them, with a minimum of feedback-support personnel.
