Life continues to throw up new challenges and opportunities! While I was Almoner and Chair of the Chartered Accountants’ Livery Charity, I founded the Livery Charity Chairs Group. Now more than 100 members from 90 Livery Companies and Guilds are sharing and learning from each other as we seek to make as much difference as possible through our charitable endeavours. Our impact is set to increase even more with the Livery Food Initiative, founded at the end of 2022, through which we have raised nearly £400,000 for food redistribution charity City Harvest London. My second challenge and opportunity? I’d been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) way back in 2009 but have not needed any treatment. However it does mean my immune system is compromised and so I shielded during the pandemic and now am careful to protect myself while living life as fully as possible, including supporting others with CLL. I became a trustee of the wonderful charity CLL Support in 2021 and became its chair in 2023. Meanwhile my Patterns of Learning framework continues to make a difference. Ten years on from its development it has supported many people in many contexts. If you are a Livery Charity Chair, or if like me you have CLL, or if you would like to know more about my learning framework, do get in touch - hilary@patternsoflearning.org.uk.
