My work supports the advancement of career and technical education (CTE) in Wisconsin and the expansion of guided career pathways that align with in-demand, high-skill and high-wage careers. • Wisconsin Technical College System
Education Director Of Strategy & Improvement
Wisconsin Technical College System Apr 2018 - Jun 2024
    Madison, Wisconsin Area
I help create insight from data to inform education practices and decisions in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). In addition, I provide assistance, expertise, and coaching in data literacy and data governance. I am keenly interested in how we can leverage data to help close student equity gaps, increase student completion and retention, and advance the success for all of our students. In addition, I manage statewide projects that bring together a diverse set of stakeholders (e.g., Perkins V - Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act) to advance career and technical education throughout Wisconsin. I created, organize and lead the WTCS OER Network, a system-wide team of OER (Open Educational Resource) champions working toward the goal of advancing open and affordable education with a focus on access and equity.
  • University Of Wisconsin- Madison
National Science Foundation (Nsf) Graduate Research Fellow
University Of Wisconsin- Madison Sep 2012 - May 2018
As a research fellow, I managed a large international research project on tree genomics and canopy insect communities. Within this work, I trained and led a ten person team in research protocols, analyzed genomic and phenomic data sets (e.g., multilevel mixed modeling, genome-wide association analysis), conducted public outreach, mentored a dozen undergraduates and high school students, and published my findings in Plos One, Molecular Ecology, and Functional Ecology. My Molecular Ecology publication has received special recognition with a perspective paper from Dr. Wimp et al. (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/mec.15209) for advancing the field of community genomics.
  • University Of Wisconsin-Madison
    Biocore Teaching Assistant
    University Of Wisconsin-Madison Sep 2017 - Jan 2018
Biocore is an honors biology program at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. I taught ecology, genetics, and evolution. As a Biocore teaching assistant, I developed lesson plans, led class discussion, graded assessments, and worked one-on-one with students to help improve their writing and scientific thinking.
  • University Of Wisconsin-Madison
    People Program Science Teacher
    University Of Wisconsin-Madison Jun 2016 - Jul 2016
    Madison, Wisconsin Area
UW-Madison's PEOPLE Program offers education opportunities to first generation students and/or students from underrepresented groups. As part of this program, I designed and taught a course on "Science and Controversy" to a class of 16 high school students. My primary course objective was to help my students learn to distinguish science from pseudoscience, using controversial topics in society (e.g., vaccines and autism, climate change, genetically modified organisms). The class was interdisciplinary and hands-on. Based on several assessments, I found that my students did improve their understanding of the scientific process and were better able to identify and understand everyday science and pseudoscience examples.
