My education in theatre performance may not lead you to non-profit management and all that encompasses but if you look closer, it's the perfect training. Theatre teaches the value of creativity, of improvisation, of listening to people (their words and what they aren't saying as well) just to start. These are exactly the skills needed to create impact and fulfill missions in the public sector.Although I didn't know it at the time, my education perfectly prepared me for the jack of all trades mindset of non-profit work as well as the interpersonal skills for the variety of people I work with as volunteers and ask for financial support. Together we carryout donor wishes and faculty/physician visions and (as my family likes to complain) I'm prepared to project my voice in a crowd.
