In this role I continuously learned aspects of community service and public policy through the Association of Washington Cities (AWC)-Effective local leadership. I have been nominated and serve on the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board-representative for cities under 5,000 population. I served as Deputy Mayor conducting business in the absence of the Mayor for the City of Granger. I provided the Mayor with support in governmental relations by providing strategic planning, budget planning & projection, research & data to inform decision-making processes.In collaboration with the Mayor, I cultivated & maintained relationships with local & state officials, legislative members, the Office of the Governor & Congressional leaders.I represented the City of Granger at external events and served as an appointed spokesperson on designated City of Granger and community matters. I also served on the City of Granger Police Department, Public Works, and City Clerks bargaining unit negotiating committees along with the City of Granger Budget Committee.I collaborated with the Granger Chief of Police in the review of Washington State Legislative Police Reform policy revisions to align with House Bills 1054 and 1310. I have served on the City of Granger Police Department for the Lateral Oral Examination Committee as Chair.

I successfully authored and earned the $2 million YVC CAMP project awarded by the Department of Education Office of Migrant Education.Developed, implemented, and established the foundational aspects of the CAMP program at YVC such as college access for migrant students, outreach, retention, and community partnerships. Collaborated with internal and external stakeholders in support of college access and retention programs for migrant students, identifying, planning, and implementing program activities, goals, and objectives including project proposed effectiveness, quality of design, services, personnel, and project evaluation, and adequacy of resources.Developed virtual recruitment workshops, informational sessions, and interviews disseminating information about CAMP and YVC to students, families, community organizations serving migrant people, and YVC communities.Hired CAMP Retention Specialist and Recruiter team members.Established partnerships with migrant farm worker serving agencies such as Employment Security Department, OIC of Washington, Radio KDNA, ESD 105, Heritage University High School Equivalency Program (HEP), Washington State CAMP programs, and Yakima Valley school districts conducting outreach to migrant students and their families.Analyzed, evaluated, and measured program goals and objectives for program effectiveness and growth opportunities using student feedback, student GPA and academic progress, retention & outreach strategies, plans, and policies. Served on federal College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant proposal committees. In this role I reviewed 15 federal CAMP grant proposals and evaluated project proposed effectiveness, quality of design, services, personnel, and project evaluation, and adequacy of resources. In collaboration with committee members, I provided recommended approval for award to projects meeting or exceeding grant proposal criteria to the U.S. Department of Education Office of Migrant Education (OME).

Utilized an inclusive and growth mindset lens in all aspects of my communication, work, educational practices/methodologies, and research such as my cultural wealth and experiences as a first-generation student, first-hand farmworker background, and community member. My personal and educational experiences along with my 12 years of higher education experience focused on areas such as: college access programs and services, personnel talent acquisition, organizational change management, institutional policy and procedures practices, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) research and best practices to develop, establish, and implement professional development workshops, enhance teaching and learning practices and materials, and increase college access to minoritized and racialized peoples.I was appointed to develop the 2020-2025 YVC Strategic Plan, consequently I developed a lead team consisting of the Associate Dean of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE), a Title V HSI Director, a Faculty Counselor, the Director of Institutional Assessment, and the Director of Change Management to develop the plan. In this role, I also collaborated with college personnel to identify, research, and explore the foundational aspects of racist, oppressive, and inequitable practices and infrastructures that reinforce divisive college access, teaching and hiring practices, implicit bias, and differential results. Developed and led workshops focusing on topics such as The Imposter Phenomenon, Implicit Bias, Effective Outreach and Retention for Minoritized and Racialized Peoples, and Infusing Photovoice to Learn Latino/a/x Student Cultural Wealth.I led the Data/Research Team a sub-group of the YVC Equity team. I facilitated, managed, and supported the development and implementation of institutional data and research through an equity lens to transform programming and initiatives college-wide in consultation with the Associate Dean of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

I managed and oversaw the YVC Title V Hispanic Serving Institution EQUAL Grant intended to build capacity and increase the academic quality of Hispanic students attending YVC.Grant writer and reviewer: reviewed and wrote federal grant proposals to secure higher education funding with a focus on capacity building and equity-minded/enhancing programs focused on racialized and minoritized students and populations such as Latino/a/x, Native American/Indigenous, Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, LGBTQUI+, undocumented students, veterans, and students with disabilities.Collaborated and coordinated with YVC administrators, faculty, staff, students, and grant stakeholders in identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating grant activities and initiatives including curriculum enhancements to English and Math remedial courses, curriculum development and implementation of AgScience courses, growth and equity-mindset faculty professional development, dual enrollment outreach to local high school students, and enhancements and developments to YVC facilities and technological capabilities such as virtual education between campuses (Yakima and Grandview), and increased technology devices for student use. Led enhancements to facilities collaborating and coordinating with YVC Facilities and Techology staff, BORArchitect team designers and vendors in the implementation of facility enhancements including the facilitation of workshops with students and faculty on learning more about the educational and instructional needs to provide the appropriate solutions, tools, and technology in the tutoring and testing centers as well as the financial aid office. This included providing inclusionary solutions such as individual seating pods for privacy and quite learning, tables for group discussion, mobile desks for ease of movement, standing and sitting computer stations, and adjustable and adaptive chairs for increased user focus or engagement.

In my capacity as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services (VP-ISS), I was responsible for organizing and managing the Office of the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services, and supporting the Vice President in the execution of their responsibilities.My experiences in migrant education and in federal TRIO education programs exposed me to educational theories and programs that improve student outcomes, especially among minoritized and racialized student populations. As a result, early on in my position, I engaged stakeholders in a manner not typical in this position such as faculty and administrative staff in matters of content and strategy, as well as process. I lead initiatives in the VP-ISS office, such as outreach and effective advising strategies to undocumented students, and substantially contributed to the planning and implementation of the student faculty advising system.I developed and established professional development workshops and training for YVC Program Assistants to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the business of the college processes. I established monthly meetings with lead department program assistants that focused on disseminating technical information and changes to business procedures at the college. I also developed and established an annual retreat inviting leads from departments such as travel, purchasing, procurement, financial aid, grants and contracts, budget, technology, library, and facilities to workshop on the procedures in each area and align processes throughout the college for efficiency. I managed and oversaw all aspects of the Vice Presidents travel, budget, calendar, office event planning and coordinating, participated in commencement planning and announced student graduate names and degrees earned, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.I served on several talent acquisition committees for faculty, staff, and administrator roles.
