About Hilda Paviter Kaur

As the Program Director at Classroom Adventures, a learning organisation that provides experiential and gamified learning opportunities for learners of all ages, I lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of various programs that aim to foster creativity, curiosity, and collaboration among learners. I also co-founded R.ED (Reimagine Education), a non-profit organisation that reimagines the type of education that refugee children in Malaysia need to thrive in the face of uncertainty and challenges. Through R.ED, I advocate for the rights and well-being of refugee children, and create a supportive community of champions who are invested in their growth and development of education for refugee communities. With a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, I have a strong background in research, culture building, and leadership. I am passionate about empowering marginalised and vulnerable groups through education, and leveraging my communication and teamwork skills to build meaningful partnerships and networks. I have a demonstrated history of working in the nonprofit sector, having served as a high school teacher under the Teach for Malaysia Fellowship Program, and as a Project Manager at Classroom Adventures, where I successfully managed and delivered multiple projects that reached over 2,000 students across the country.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, RFTR has stepped up to provide Food Aid to the communities that has been affected. Since I joined in Feb 2021, we've given out over 12 000+ packs of food to various communities. My role is to coordinate the beneficiaries that would receive the food every week. This includes, planning for distribution, managing the routes that our drivers will use as well as communicating with the community leaders that we work with. As a team, we've also started to work on strengthening and building a community of leaders from the various refugee communities that we work with. With this, we hope to unite them as well as to be more relevant towards their needs by giving them a space to voice out and to speak for their communities.

"The aim of Education is to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can be fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens." - Creative Schools, Ken RobinsonThe two year Fellowship in Teach For Malaysia gave me a grassroot experience of what it is like to experience our Malaysian Education System from an educator's point of view. During the two years, I've learned that a teacher's role goes far from just educating their students. They hold various other roles that is unspoken of. As I juggled these roles, I learned to see a student's growth from an Equity mindset rather than an Equality mindset. This has shaped so much of how I problem-solved and realised that how we choose to look at things and what we choose to notice is enormously consequential to the decisions we make. I learned that my skill in building relationships and being approachable was a strong factor in reaching out even to the toughest students. Everyday, I experienced success and failures and yet everyday, I picked myself up again in order to help these kids achieve an excellent education.
