In 1988 I graduated from the Catholic University Leuven in Japanology. A couple of years later I got my Masters in Ceramics at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. (1996). After my studies I moved to the Philippines where I worked as a self-employed artist. During these years in the Philippines I showed my works at the French Embassy and renowned Art Galleries (Brix Gallery and Albert Avellana Art Gallery). In 1999 I probably made the very first underwater installation ever. This installation got published in the Magazine "Asia Diver" and on the Philippine national TV. ( http://www.hildeorye.be/maricaban-nests-1999.html ) Around the year 2000 I started to make Mixed Media Art, but Japanese filosophy and aesthetics stayed closely interwoven with my art. In 2003 I moved back to Belgium and continued to work as an artist. Nowadays I teach botanical drawing at various locations (botanical garden in Gent, 't Grom museum in Mechelen amongst others) Love for nature and my concern that it is not well looked after compells me to share it's beauty with other people.
