She doesn't sit back and let others do the work, she wants to be in the middle of it all. She thinks clearly, based on arguments. She's persistent, but can be persuaded by reasoning. It was a pleasure to work with her as workers representatives during the merger of WPF and Rutgers. We made a good team!" and "Hilde and I were colleagues at Rutgers WPF. During that time I had the pleasure of working with Hilde on various projects. Hilde is a very well informed and result driven person. Rutgers WPF envisions a world in which every person can enjoy the highest attainable standard of sexual and reproductive health and in which they can exercise their sexual and reproductive rights. As advocacy officer, I advocate for policy and financial commitments for SRHR by the following strategies:1. Advocacy towards decision makers at United Nations levelI monitor global discussions and work to influence United Nations discussions, resolutions and outcomes on population, development, gender and SRHR. Within a network of global SRHR organizations, I have played a leading role in: - Mobilizing civil society from all continents to join the international advocacy network to develop and implement joint advocacy strategies; - Direct advocacy with governments at the UN: building relationships with key delegates from key countries, providing information, resources, language;- Organizing strategy sessions, roundtables and conferences about relevant UN processes to strengthen civil society messages and outputs. On several occasions we have seen our positions reflected in the final decisions or outcome documents. 2. Advocacy towards the Netherlands’ governmentMy task is to keep SRHR as one of the Netherlands government’s priorities in international development policies. - Networking with government officials, parliamentarians and civil society - Coordinating public campaigns and organizing conferences, workshops and round tables3. Advocacy in partner countriesI am responsible for building the SRHR advocacy capacity of our field office staff and partners in Indonesia, Pakistan, Viet Nam, Uganda and Kenya and I help them link their national activities to regional and global advocacy initiatives. - Conducting advocacy training and facilitating advocacy strategy meetings- Providing technical assistance for in country advocacy strategies- Contributing to the establishment of a successful youth advocacy network in Kenya and its sustainability

Review in The Broker, by former Minister for Development Cooperation Jan Pronk, click http://www.thebrokeronline.eu/en/The-Broker-thesis-project3/The-Broker-thesis-project/Theses/The-journey-homeThesis: ‘The journey home: Multi-discursive perceptions of the movement patterns of internally displaced persons, Northern Uganda’. Nominated for the African Thesis Award 2009.This thesis bridges different academic disciplines and has a multi-discursive approach. It endeavours to answer the question: why are the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Gulu and Amuru districts not returning home?Local dynamics reveal that the improved level of security does not necessarily mean that one can speak of a post-conflict phase. This thesis approaches ‘war’ and ‘violence’ as socially constructed phenomena. The fact that the peace deal has not yet been signed is a serious restriction in the security situation in Northern Uganda. This creates a gap in perceptions and local realities. A universal approach is needed about the definition of the level of security, and the implications for humanitarian programming. ‘Home’ and ‘return’ are dynamic concepts for IDPs in Acholiland. Many who have built their huts in the villages still commute and do not feel at home anywhere. There is fear – that the rebels that might come back – and doubt that these peace talks will fail. This thesis suggests seeing movement as a process, not as a solution, or an ending to a long-lasting conflict. There are major gaps in terms of service delivery, return facilitation and humanitarian response. There are cases of segregation, corruption, stigmatization and uncertainty in the humanitarian aid response to IDPs. The current humanitarian approach seriously undermines the displaced people’s rights and their authority to make their own choices. The displaced people of Acholi have the right to decide when to move and where to.This thesis was nominated for the African Thesis Award in 2009.
