About Hilke Heremans

When I was five years old, I started working with my first personal computer. A good old C64 (well, actually a C128D). Over more than 35 years that followed, I've had the privilege (and lots of fun) to tinker with loads of technologies. To this day, I’m still fascinated by all the beautiful ideas and experiences people all over the world come up, and the technologies they use to craft them. And I absolutely love helping create them, especially when they touch people’s lives in some tangible way.I’m passionate about:- helping build, grow or guide teams through often uncertain times- making informed technical decisions that align with the business context and goals- providing strategic direction amidst a flux of daily micro-decisions, and thus acting as a technical compass in a businessI have unique experience in both business (as a sort of former auditor) and technology (as a developer/architect/manager), which helps me tackle problems from both perspectives easily. In the more recent past, I’ve worked extensively with event tech and digital media.As a seasoned architect and engineer, my forte lies in tackling unique challenges, especially those laden with nuanced edge cases. My approach is to tackle things one step at a time, and keeping solutions simple, practical, effective, and scalable. In leadership, my focus is on nudging people to grow and creating warm, safe environments that prioritize authenticity, respect, and integrity.     Tsjing is... well, was, an intelligent mobile ordering platform for one of the sexiest industries in the world: hospitality and events. It lets customers order drinks and food and pay for it using their mobile phones, eliminating queues and letting you sit back and relax. Hospitality venues increased their net results by revamping their guest experience, consumers no longer needed to wait for service and had the peace of mind of not having to wait for drinks or the bill.The tsjing platform was completely built on top of React, React Native and Node.js, the latter being built as an advanced GDPR-ready homegrown platform. It was designed using Domain-Driven design and was fully Event Sourced. It used Command Query Responsibility Segregation, allowing it to scale up and out nearly linearly as its userbase grew, all while keeping the complex hospitality business's logic easily maintainable into clean domains. Everything was split up into microservices, running on a self-sustaining Docker/Rancher setup.
