I am currently the STEM Education Program Manager at SLAC. SLAC is so understatedly thrilling! The work that is going on at the facility is fascinating, bold, visionary, and will have real positive impact on the world. I am ensuring that undergrad, grad, and post-doc college students, from community colleges, colleges, and universities, and aspiring science teachers, gain access to this amazing research center. I am especially focused on making women and underrepresented minorities aware of, and applying for internships with these research opportunities that may internally feel are out of reach. Until June 2013, I was a middle school science teacher at the Nueva School where I taught hands-on, "learn by doing" 7th and 8th grade science based on interdisciplinary integration, using technology and design innovation (bioengineering, biomimicry, architecture, etc.) I was also the 8th grade Dean of students. In 2013 I moved into administrative rolls ranging from Middle School Head to Director of Internships, 9th grade Dean, and Dean of Student Life, grades 5-12.Specialties: Mentor, constructivist curriculum development and teaching approach, development of international travel programs based on curriculum and school values, design theory/thinking & implementation, science knowledge (how things (living and mechanical) work), thought leader, public speaking, elected political official, executive management/decision making (leadership, hiring, training, finance), government liaison, Board Vice President.
